Find your first pour: a guide to Akan’s six brews

Crisp, fruity, citrusy or hoppy? Get to know the six personalities on Akan’s beer menu before choosing your first pour.

A flight of freshly poured beers at Akan Brewing Co

You do not need a beer vocabulary to find a drink you enjoy. At Akan Brewing Co in Madhapur, Hyderabad, a useful place to start is the flavour you already like: something crisp, something fruity, or something with a little more hop character.

Our menu brings together four beer styles, an apple cider and a chilli guava mead. Each has its own Hyderabad-inspired personality. Here is how to make sense of the line-up before your next visit by Durgam Cheruvu.

Start with the flavour, then the style

If you usually prefer a clean, refreshing drink, look first at Light le Miya. If fruit is more your thing, compare Main Character and Kirrak Guava. For a citrus-led wheat beer, explore Tension Nakko. Durgam Cheru-view and KBR One Way offer two different directions when you want to explore beyond those starting points.

Light le Miya: rice lager

Light le Miya is our rice lager, with light, crisp and refreshing tasting notes. Think of it as the straightforward starting point when you want a clean finish. Tell the team if you prefer a lighter-tasting pour; they can help you compare it with the other beers available that day.

Main Character: apple cider

Main Character brings crisp, fruity and tart notes to the line-up. It is apple cider, rather than a beer style, so it is worth considering when you are drawn to fruit-led drinks. The combination of sweetness and a tart edge makes it a different choice from the rice lager.

Kirrak Guava: chilli guava mead

Kirrak Guava is the chilli guava mead on our menu. Its tasting notes are fruity, spicy and sweet. If the idea of guava with a little heat appeals to you, start the conversation here. Let the team know your preference for sweetness and spice before you order.

Tension Nakko: witbier

Tension Nakko is our witbier. It sits in the citrusy, hazy and smooth part of the menu. It is a useful beer to compare with Light le Miya if you want to understand how two refreshing pours can have very different personalities.

Durgam Cheru-view: festbier lager

Durgam Cheru-view is the festbier lager in the line-up. Explore its malty, smooth and balanced notes if you want to move in a different direction from the fruit-led cider and mead. The name is also a nod to the lake that gives Akan its setting.

KBR One Way: New England IPA

KBR One Way is our New England IPA. Its juicy, hoppy and tropical notes make it the option to discuss when hop character is what you are curious about. If you are unsure how that compares with your usual order, describe the flavours you like to the team rather than choosing by the name alone.

A few useful questions before ordering

  • Which of these pours are available on tap today?
  • Which is closest to the flavours I already enjoy?
  • What serving sizes are available for my choice?
  • What would you suggest with the food we are ordering?

Tap availability and the current menu are the best guides when you arrive. You can explore the tasting notes and current listed prices on our homepage or open the beer menu before visiting.
